- What is WREGIS?
The Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System is a database designed to track all renewable energy generation in the geographic area covered by the Western Interconnection.
- How does WREGIS work?
WREGIS issues one WREGIS Certificate for each MWh of renewable energy generated by registered generation facilities. WREGIS users have private accounts, similar to bank accounts, where certificates are deposited upon creation. Once a certificate is created, it can be transferred, retired, or exported to a compatible tracking system according to the needs of the certificate owner.
- Who participated in developing WREGIS?
Over 400 stakeholders, from 11 western states and 2 Canadian provinces, participated in the development process. Stakeholders were able to participate by means of stakeholder meetings as well as various working committees.
- Is continued stakeholder participation encouraged?
Absolutely! Interested stakeholders can join the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC). This body acts as an advisor to the WREGIS Committee (WC) and elects four of the seven WC members.
- What benefits will WREGIS offer?
WREGIS will issue certificates based upon verifieable data. It will provide participants with various reports on renewable generation totals. It may provide participants with improved product security by being based upon verifiable data.
